  • Handlebars for 1980 special

Have "Buckhorn" style bars, (probably original, but just purchased last Fall so not sure) Comfy going down the road but a little too narrow and pull-back length not to my liking (control at low speed turns). Wanting set of chrome bars about 32" wide, with 7-8" rise and pullback.

Any suggestions on sets of bars others have used with success on Specials would be greatly appreciated. Anyone ever had a problem with bars/gas tank clearance using after-market bars?

Not interested in selling the bars I have now until I find suitable replacement.

    Thanks!

      special bars

Thanks for the post SLO MO, glad I'm not alone in my buckhorn opinion. If your bike is handy and has stock special bars, could you shoot me the rise,pull-back specs? Maybe I would have better luck and fit picking up a used pair than going with new aftermarket. Plus I can't seem to find spec's I mentioned at a price I want to pay on the internet anyway.

BTW, how did those Fatboy pipes fit? Saw the tech tip on that. Luckily my bike has the originals and in good shape for now but when they go I'd like to have a cheap set of spares handy. Kind of like the look of those pipes too!

the standard bars are just that they in no way resemble the buckhorns you can get standard bars for 10 bucks plus shipping or someone on site might give you a set for the cost of shipping on the mufflers i have a mac system and its mufflers came off and the fat bots slipped back on ,,had to configure a new hanger ,,no problem look up a picture ofamxs11standard you will see what i mean ,,ride safe slow mo!

I tried different bars for my Special, I found a local bike shop had some LTD bars for about $30 a pair. Alot of folks here have state they put older Goldwing bars on and liek them, so I took those measurements and found the LTD version.

I like the older Goldwing bars but this year I might put a set of ST1100 bars on it, just like on my ST1100!
