  • Need petcock for 80 Special

    Hello XS Forum

I recently purchased a 1980 XS1100G (though the tank has been swapped) that had fallen into disrepair. I think I have fixed everything but the speedometer and the right petcock. I have a speed cable on order but can't find the petcock I need. If anyone knows where I can get one I would really appreciate it.

This is my 1st bike and I am very excited to find out I got a good deal on one that has such a huge following. Speaks worlds about these machines.

    Cosmetics

    a sidenote

Pretty much everything cosmetically is terrible. From a split seat to rusty exhaust to rigged blade fuses under the cover.

If anyone has ANY cosmetic parts they are willing to part with I am interested.

Also, what seat cover is recommended? It is really hard to trust the website reviews, but I think I am leaning towards the JC Whitney one.

    Thanks
    Mr. Jimmy

Member TopCatGr58 sells a replacement blade-style fuse box that works perfectly. Check out post #10 in this thread. I think it's $11 shipped, and you just add fuses (comes with connectors).

Seat covers can be had from LOTS of places. I got mine from B&H Specialties, and it was a PERFECT replica of the OEM cover.

As far as the petcock goes - do you not have one at all, or do you just need the internal rubber parts? You can get rebuild kits from lots of places, including ebay. Usually pretty cheap too. Just be sure you get the kit for a standard and not a special. It will come with a diaphragm, a round rubber seal with holes in it, and a funny o-ring thingy.

Thank you for your help. The tank is a special, so i got the rebuild kit for it for $22. The rest will have to wait until next pay day. One peice at a time and hopefully done before spring.

          Hey Jimmy,

          Welcome to XS11.com!!

For future postings, if you have a special it is called an XS1100SG. You can also add a signature like you see in most folks post that indicates the year and model of your bike.

This being your first bike, please take the MSF basic riders course when you can! This bike is very heavy and has a sh!tload of power, but not the best braking system, so look ahead and slow down early on these beast. Just ride at speeds that YOU are comfortable with.
Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

When your work speaks for itself, don't interrupt.

Also just so that we can help as best we can compare you steering neck vin number to this list in this link. xs11.com/faqs/153-serial-numbersmodel-designationsfactory-colors.html

I know you stated you have a G with a special tank but over 30 years sometimes things get mixed up on registrations especially if it has changed owners often. Also pictures help us to know what things have been swapped for other model parts (which is common and cause issues when looking for parts).

Good luck, hope we can help, and welcome to the site.
