I need a standard Yamaha ignition switch and key. I believe it's the same for all Yamaha street bikes, though it will actually go on a 1996 YZF 600R for my son.

The switches are not all the same. I only know the XS ones, and depending on the displacement (650/750/850/1100), some are different from others.1980 XS850SG - Sold

I know that the 400 and 650 in the XS series use the same ignition, and I haven't even compared to see if it's the same as on my 1100, but I do know that the 650 ignition was a direct replacement for my damaged ignition on my 400.Cy

Even on the 1100 they can differ. The early models used a 3 wire switch while the later ones used a 4 wire switch. If you disassemble the switches it is fairly simple to swap those parts out though.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!
