  • Swingarm wire tool and handle

Hi all. I'm trying to source the factory wire swingarm tool and handle on behalf of a fellow Australian XSive who is restoring his Standard to original specs. As you all probably know, that tool is an essential bit of kit for a bike with the stock pipes so I'm just asking if anyone's got a spare one they don't need anymore. Let me know how much you're asking for it so I can pass the info on.
    Thanks in advance
    Errol

    They look like this BTW.
79 SF Special W/ Stock all original motor @ 384,000klms
Stock exhaust, stock airbox, XJ sump, 78E carbs, Xs1100RH seat, Bosch superhorns, 5/8ths front M/c, braided lines, sintered SBS pads, drilled discs, progressive springs, 8" 50w HID headlight 4300K, 2 x 50w HID spiral driving lights, KONI shocks, Spade fuse box
*Touring mode - Plexistar 2 screen, Gearsack rack & bag & saddlebags, homebuilt towbar
*"The Keg"- UC torana hubs, XS11 discs, Tokico 4 spot calipers

    Still no joy,eh?

I'm still looking. Currently attempting to fab a replica but the tricky short bent tubular bits are near impossible to replicate successfully. Had 4 goes at it so far.
Rather surprised that with all the chops, hardtails, bobbers, bikes with aftermarket pipes etc over here that no ones got a cable to spare.

I think they have all just been lost, broken, or tossed cause some PO didn't know what it was over they years.

Could be just that, Nathan. I'm trying to make something up that is a copy of the original, though it doesn't look promising.

I have one of the tools, but not the cable. I had wondered if the tool even belonged in the kit.

Ok, I'll be the first one to ask, what's it used for? They pop up from time to time, but what exactly does it do?

              what's it used for?

Holds the swing arm up so you can remove the axle/nut w/o fooling around with the exhaust on a standard with stock exhaust.

I've got the cable around somewhere.
I'll have to look for it.

Would this work on a special that had mufflers past the axle bolt?

Unfortunately, no. Yamaha didn't weld the 'hooks' for this (that the 'standard' frame has) onto the 'special' frame, so you have no place to hook it there.

Truthfully, I never found that 'lever' (to install the cable) to be all that useful. I usually just hooked the cable to the FD and frame, then leaned over the seat to compress the suspension and hooked the other end. Waaay easier...

All that came with my Venturer when new...............who knows what happened to it all. No matter........not needed on the Venturer with its stock original exhaust anyways.

It has the hooks on the frame tubes under the seat? They all had the stuff on the swingarm, but neither my SG or H frames have the frame hooks.
