  • Need help and parts for my 79 xs1100

This is my first bike and I need some help. Im looking for a muffler that will fit my header. The size of the pipe on the header is 2 1/4. I cant seem to find anything that looks like it will fit it. Im ready to just buy a generic muffler and make a intermediate pipe to connect to my header.
I also need something to secure my seat. As you can see in the photos its missing something important, and Im not entirely sure what that is. I dont know a whole lot about this bike just yet so I thought I would post some pictures of what Im working with. This looks like a great community and I want some input. I also need a air filter and an air cleaner box seal/gasket. Any help would be great.

Welcome aboard! It appears that you have almost all of what you need for the seat. The piece that is attached to the left side of the bike needs to be bolted to the seat (those 4 bolts on the underside of the seat). It should have a threaded stud hanging down that slides into the U-shaped bracket. A long (1.5" or so) nut then gets tightened from underneath. There should be a set on each side. Getting new hardware is very difficult though, so I hope you have the missing piece from the right side of the bike...

Sorry, I can't help with the exhaust, other than to say many have used discarded Hardley mufflers with decent results. YMMV.

I assume you need a manual? You can download one from the link in my signature. If this is your first bike, I STRONGLY encourage you to seek out and take the MSF Basic Ridercourse. A little pricey sometimes, but WELL worth the cost.

Looks like you could benifit from a replacement fuse box as well. Lots of member have used a replacement offered by TopCat. It has the automotive spade fuses... Im sure thats not your biggest concern but its less than $15 shipped if your interested. As far as the exhaust, I would find a fabricator that can bend tube. You sould be able to buy a reducer and have a pipe bent and fabbed to accept a common baffel from a newer sport bike or something from a HD... GL, let us know how it turns out.

Depending on what your budget is like, your best bet would be a Supertrapp baffel from ebay. You would still have to get a pipe made to connect the two but the result would be A+.
