  • '79 XS1100SF Wiring Harness Needed

    I have put a '79 SF engine in a '81 SH Frame. The '81 Harness is not a match and is giving me fits. Therefore the '79 SF complete wiring harness is needed.

    You may have less trouble modifying just the TCI connections than trying to make a 79 harness work with the rest of the 81 stuff. I believe that only the TCI connector is different, and you can even use the original TCI if you put the 81 ignition parts on the 79 engine.

    This assumes that you have the 81 ignition parts.

    The only difference AFAIK between the 79 and 81 engine is that all centrifical advance is done in the TCI with no mechanical advance other than vacuum. Other than that, everything else should be the same at the engine.

    Oh, valves are different, but that doesn't matter unless trying to match an 81 head to a 79 engine, or a 79 head to an 81 engine.

      My 81LH has a 79SF motor in it. The only thing I had to change was to put the 2H7 TCI in. It would not run with the 4R0 TCI. I am running the 79 advance as well. You can also change out the ignition parts and run the 4R0 but the TCI swap is faster cleaner and easier by far.
