Randy, those threads are HARD. I thought I would be slick and chase the threads on mine with a tap, and it screwed up the tap. When I tried to back it out, the tap broke, so I drove it on through with a punch. The busted part of the tap shattered and the threads were still ok. I think Yamaha machined the shaft, then heat treated it, and surface ground the outer diameter.

Also, I have looked and looked at this thing and I see no reason that a standard grade 10.9 bolt wouldn't work with a nice thick machined washer of the right diameter. Since I am on my last bolt, that is my plan next time.

Hmmmm.. I guess I'm just unlucky then. When mine backed out, it wallowed out and ruined about half a bolt length worth of the shaft's threads while the clutch gear ate on the bolt head.

I went and got a couple regular metric bolts with the same threads and ran those in there and out a couple times, then installed another proper bolt. With the threads as mucked up as they were, that has been working better than any lock-tite ever could on that bolt! lol.
