  • WTB midnight special rear fender and such

    Hello,
I am looking to change my 1980 XS1100 Special's rear fender, headlight bucket and trim, and headlight ears to some I can paint.I already have the front fender. I guess I am looking for midnight special parts? I guess all the other models are chromed? Doesn't have to be perfect I am going to paint it anyway.

    Anyone??
    Thanks,
    George

George, you caould always take a sander to the chrome and paint that.

My project bikes fenders were just to pitted to look decent by the tiem I got it. So I got out the 220 sand paper and went at it. Got a good scatch across the entire fenders and used rattle can rustoleum for rusty metal primer on them. A couple coats of that then 1000 grit wet sanded. Then painted and clear coat, black none the less. Being a rattlecan job it is certainly a 20 footer at best, got that "eggshell" finish to it. But looks good, and so far is holding just fine.

Now if your chrome is in good condition, you might want to sell the parts and buy ones with issues to sand out. JAT.

      Hey George,
I have powder coated engine covers if you need them, as well as a black powder coated grab bar to match(1980sg). They are more of a flat black than a midnights gloss, but let me know if you can use them.
