  • Looking for a petcock (or two...) for a Standard

Ever since I bought my bike, the petcocks have worked pretty much whenever they wanted to. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they work so well you can't shut them off, no matter what setting they're on!

What I'm looking for is a (relatively cheap) set of petcocks that actually work CONSISTENTLY. My left (when sitting on the bike) petcock is the worst offender, not working when there's only a bit of gas in the tank and not shutting off when there's a lot. The right one isn't too bad, but if I can replace both of them and be done with it, more the better.

Either PM me or reply here if you have any recommendations. My motorcyle is a 1980 XS1100 Standard. Thanks!
    Currently XS-less.

They are rebuildable. With the correct kits, they should operate like brand new if there is no physical damage to the castings.

You can go to aftrmarket petcocks, but they can get expensive I think.

I am building a std tank for my special and I am going to modify the valve to be manual on/off.

      Petcocks

You would probably be better off putting after market petcocks for reliability. The petcocks are evil haven't you heard!!!

You should have said something before I shipped the tank!! I COULD have sent out a tank WITH petcocks. They WOULD have needed a rebuild, but the kits from georgefix on ebay work very well, IMHO.

Take them apart and clean them, make sure to take a very fine emery to the back of the "dial" and get it to a glasslike finish. I have a set I'm going to clean and list on ebay this week. They don't leak now, but they are getting cleaned anyway.
