Look around for an upholstery shop in your area. If you take them your seat, they should be able to take it apart and use the old cover as a pattern to make a new cover. While they're at it, they should be able to rework the foam if needed. They'll be able to put it all back together looking good as new, or better!
I may have to do that. The one I have is some sort of aftermarket double bucket thing that I think detracts from the lines of the bike, so I wanted to re-work it anyway.
i have a double bucket seat for 80 standard pretty good looking , just spray painted the pan today, the seat has 2 small holes that could be fixed. but could use it the way it is also. they are about the size of a pencil and not very noticeable. unless you are looking for holes. if interested ill put up some pictures, 60 bucks plus 25 shipping.
Thanks for the offer, but the one I have is a double bucket that just needs recovering. I am actually wanting to go back to a more stock, straighter (and narrower) look. This should help my short-legged problem a bit too.
I just went through this same thing myself. I looked for a relatively cheap seat on Ebay and managed to get one for 50 bucks (not a whole lot of help, I know). Straighter the stock seat may be, but narrower it is not. In fact, I think both the standard and double-bucket seats use identical seat pans.
If you can find the foam and covering for the standard seat, you may be able to fit it to the double-bucket seat pan and save a bit of cash.
Tim, B&H Specialties out in Hurst, Texas did a really nice job on the seat for my '80G.
I had to send them my seat so it was a little spendy for me with the shipping but I know they have a good pattern now.
Regards,
Scott
