  • Need octy

Lookin for a octy for my SG.I have the old one but am missing a tiny piece inside the passage where the vacuum nipple screws on.I think it a check valve type thing.Dont care if the octy needs a kit just has to have that piece still in there.

    Octy

This may be more than you need but I have a complete octy, and two petcocks off my 1979 Special. I just rebuilt them all about a year ago, so they are ready to go. You can have all for $100.

I threw my old one away today. I would have sent it to you as I bought a new one. They are still available, but expensive.

If you're just looking for the rubber check valve, you can buy those separately. I had to replace mine, as the rubber crumbled apart inside the octy. It comes as part of a petcock rebuild kit, or you can buy it separately here. This is the only moving part in the octy, so I'm not sure what else you might need to repair yours.

That diaphragm in the last post fits the vacuum petcock. Are you sure the same diaphragm is used in the octy?

That looks like the right diaphram.
I bought a kit about a year ago.I rebuilt my octy. Now there is a vacuum nipple on the octy, right? Well when you unscrew that, there is a flat disc that is very small in diameter in trhe hole.I lost that.It looked to me they used it for a little oneway valve.I put it back together with the new diaphragm in it.Anyway my octy didnt work right after that. I really dont know if it was because of that little disc or maybe I got the diaphragm that has the wrong length of post in it(the post that is in the middle of the diaphragm). So I figured I would like to get a good one or at least one that has the part I lost.

The vaccum nipple just allows the pressure (negative pressure) from the engine to pull the diaphragm back and allow fuel to flow. There are no other valves or seals in it that I am aware of. The only thing that gets replaced in there is that rubber diaphragm.

When I rebuilt my petcocks, this was the kit I bought. Mine is an '81, so the parts are a bit different from yours though. '81s don't have vacuum petcocks. The diaphragm is for the octy.

                          K+l

I have heard of some problems with the K+L kits being too long in the post area and causing problems. Not sure about that but maybe some others recall that subject. Maybe a search would turn up some old info on that. JAT

I have heard some people complain about them too. However, I had no problems at all with mine. I did the full Carb kit and the petcock rebuild kit with all K&N stuff, and it all went fine.

I rebuilt my petcocks and havent had a problem either and I think they were k&l .The octy just didnt work.Maybe I'll try another kit.
The octy on ebay sold for $74.I ran him up that far and knew I could go to bikebandit and get it for $93.So I figured the guy must really want it.
My bike doesnt leak and runs good,so I can wait for a better deal.
