That's the same as the Vetter gear that came on my '81H (Venturer edition here in Canada). I believe they do come up for sale occasionally, although you might need to be prepared to do battle at Ebay with somebody else who wants them more than you.

      Yup ...

That's the same package alright, Ken. Vetter did make the fairing but another mfgr made the bags, I believe.

Vetter does, however, make the 'triangular' shaped bags and I would buy a set of those too

Hate Ebay with a passion .... just the thought of having to buy something on there puckers up my but___le ... sometimes it's just simply unavoidable.

Have Bags similar to pictures. Blue color and latches are front/back so mine do not open from side or have hinges. Picked up from Andreas Weiss as part of "Total Bagger" package for xs STD. Unfortunately for me (?) I own a 79 Special and bags, mounts, trunk, and fairing from STD need to be "modified" in order to fit. Would rather not make irreversable mods to accessories which would bolt on to a STD effortlessly.

Weather permitting, can lay out parts and take pics. All bagger items are original "yamaha" as far as I know.

          Thx Larry,

I got a set of Ebay .... hwy robbery but supposedly they're on their way here from Utah.

I have a 79 Special too and had no problem bolting on all the stuff from a later model Std. bagger .... wonder why you're having problems?

Don't know if Planedick is ready to start repairing his bike but you might check in with him.

I know what you mean about E-bay...

Problem I have is backing plate holes don't line up with mounts on frame. Plates also have notches/cut outs which don't match either. Tubes/guards for bags look different than yours in photo...photo...Hey!! How did you put a photo of your parts in the post???

If I new how to do that you could see how mine are "just a bit off".

            Ok to PM....

              Making repairs

              Larry,
I'm doing the repairs now and am looking for bags, but the mnounting system on those Thewiz showed is not to my liking, so I am looking for different kind. The mount on those is too difficult to remove to access the rear tire.

                same type of mounts??

                Planedick,

here's a pic of the mount system I've got. Looks similar to the Wiz style...

                bags and trunk...Ta Dah!!

Like I said, parts came off a STD and won't fit without "modifications" (saber-saw...) onto my special. My mounts may/may not have same rear wheel access situation.

                  similar ....

but not the same as the ones in my pic. The most notable difference is that 'V" on the top of the bracket between the large mounting holes. My brackets have it and your pic doesn't. Haven't checked against either my Std or Special yet ... but I will as time allows. I'll put up a pic of the Special with the brackets on it and a bag out.

Just curious .... Where exactly are you having trouble getting them to fit ... the brackets, crash bars or bolt holes?

                    Wiz,

"Vee/Notch" in mounting plate is in wrong position. Tail end of special and standard are just off enough to be a problem for "straightforward" swap. Will take pics of what I've got and post tomorrow evening.

                      STD bags versus Special bike

Here's the mount plate held against bike. Notice that the Vee notch does not line up with the existing sissy bracket bolt. Saber saw could change that situation.

But here is where it makes my brain hurt. The lower end of the bag "cage" is slipped over the rear footpeg bolt...

And I presume the upper end should mount to the top of the shock...But it is way short. Cage measures 10 inches between holes and bike measures 11 and 1/2.

                      Square peg versus round hole???
