I am looking for a trunk for my 1979 xs1100F. Anyone?

hey there Brasco18.....hear ya about wanting a trunk.....but wanting and getting are 2 different things.....was sort of a 2 part buy, with the deck and backrest of one from the scrap yard.....SWMBO liked the backrest but wasn't crazy about it....so like you i thought ok, Vetter trunk with backrest built in....it also has extra brake lights to wire into the bike......yeah........that was fun to find, buy and ship via usps from seattle, wa.......total ordeal cost about $175 and took about 1 1/2 years to complete....i wish you good luck on your search.....look on ehate and your local junkyards....even try craigslist...ya never know...talk 2 ya later....ross

Yea, I figured it was going to be at least $70 for anything, closer to $100 if I want something good. I am going to build my own trunk. I will do my best to sketch something out and I will post my progress. I will probably start a new thread in a different forum though.Stock '79 xs1100 StandardComment

hey there Brasco18 (ross).....u are the third one i know....first is me, of course, second is my son, ross jr. and third is you....pretty cool.....anywho, admire your moxie in building your own trunk...whatcha gonna do, fiberglass or what.....just remember that weight is very much the issue that high up on the bike....my vetter unit is only good for 20# and that is totally pushing it...do you have the decking.....if not this is gonna b a total build from scratch setup.....if ya want, for your drawing board, here are a couple of photos of what i have...hope it helps....talk 2 ya later and good luck designing.....ross

That is a nice lookin' trunk. It does help in planning out my design. I was actually considering making out of wood, or possibly combining wood with another material. I would build a frame out of wood and cover it with something. Who knows if it will actually happen, though. I really want to try.Stock '79 xs1100 StandardComment
