Are you completely missing this part for your bike?
Most often, people end up stripping the threads in the aluminum body by over torquing the adjustment bolt. This is a very easy part to fix with a small helicoil.
If the rubber plug in the end of the assembly is leaking, or missing, it can also be repaired or replaced for low cost.
The unit is still there but with the two side rails are wore and it is adjusted as far as she will go I guess. The old girl has 80,000 on her and I think I may have found a member that has what I need.
A new damper is probably not going to make any difference. You may need to replace a stretched cam chain.
Have a look at the procedure for adjusting the cam chain slack. If you do the adjustment and find that the plunger at its limit of travel, then you do need a new chain. If there is still throw available on the adjuster, then your chain is okay and you're good to go with what you've already got. (As long as the adjuster is not stripped.)
