  • Wanted: 79 XS1100 Special

I had one of these about 13 years ago. It was the best bike I ever had. Sold it to buy a V-max and have been regretting it ever since. Looking for one in good condition and not too far from Baltimore. Have looked at a couple that were on the internet. Looked a lot worse in person than the pictures. Anybody looking to sell?

Thanks for the post. I'm really looking for one in stock condition or close to stock. The one in your link is too modified for my taste.

I did a mapquest. You're about 2900 miles away....and I was ticked off that I drove to New Jersey (150 miles away) to look a bike that was way worse than the owner described over the phone.

I'm getting frustrated. I've been searching on and off for the last year or so and can't seem to find the right bike. I don't have a tremendous amount of mechanical ability and need something that is in good condition. I like the '79 seat grab bars way better than 80 or 81 and have found from the forum that they are not interchangable without a lot of modification. It HAS to be a Special. I know where I can get a decent Virago 750 for $1000. Can somebody talk me out of it? I want to ride now but I know that I will never be happy with anything other than my 1st true love: a 1979 Yamaha XS1100SF.

Thanks for the post. The one in Philly is already sold. I had previously called about that one. The one in Sheboygan is a standard and I am holding out for a special. The last one in MA is a special but is a 80 ( I prefer the 79) and kind of far away. I had previously driven 150 miles to New Jersey (and rented a trailer) for a bike that was in way worse shape than the owner said it was. (Pictures can be quite deceiving.) I'm also trying to avoid the long, wasted trip. Thanks again.

I have a black 79 special, I picked it up with 4,000 mile and have it up to 10,700 now. always garaged and it's clean as they come. It's been my baby for the last 4 years. I don't think you will find a better one. Send me your email, I'll send a pic. I'm not looking to give it away but if the price was right.....you won't have to do anything to it. gwentz93@micro-link.net

                            still looking

I was not able to get a deal done with xs11lover. I'm still looking for a '79 special.

Nothing agaist the Virago. I had one and liked it but its nothing like the XS11. The differance is night and day. When you hit the starter on the XS it starts and when you hit the throttle it goes. Be patient. It toook me about a year of looking and a year of redooing. Good Luck to you!!!
