  • XJ1100 heat shield/muffler protector

Hi . Anyone have the right side heat shield/muffler protector for a XJ1100. Yamaha lists it as part number :

    10M-14728-00-00 PROTECTOR, MUFFLER 2

Its the chrome bit that is on the header just in front of your right foot .

    Thanks

          lost and found heat shield

I gave it up for lost . I went to a rally one Sunday into Quebec . I heard a ping on a straight stretch but I thought it was wire or something I ran over . Upon finding the shield missing ,I slowly cruised up and down all the straight parts between the rally and the Quebec/Ontario border . No luck .
The next Wednesday I decided to go back . I picked the first straight part and parked the bike . I walked a mile up and down but no luck . I started out in the other direction and EUREKA - there it was about 50 feet from the bike lying chrome side down and flat . It was soot black on the bottom so it was hard to see .
I re-curved it and attached it to the pipe . The PO had drilled holes into the header to locate this shield so I guess time burns the screws away . I felt like I was a actor in a TV show . Pretty sureal really . Thanks for your interest .

            I'm glad you found it.

Just finished installing my hard bags a while back. On the maiden run I was stopped at a light and a guy in the car beside me said I lost the cover. Where? Oh about 15 ks back. I rode back looking for the black cover, didn't see it. Oh well, started back again, this time trying to see into the ditchs, something caught my eye, there it was lying beside a mail box on the shoulder, inside facing up. Didn't see it first time cause I was looking for black and then inside is white!

Funny how your brain makes your eyes look for a certain thing and misses the others!
