I have one, but have no key for it. If you don't need the cap I could drill out the hinge pin and look inside to confirm that it is rust free. Its my fault there is no key, I sold the keyswitch for that bike and forgot to make a copy for the gas cap. DOH!

Slide a hacksaw blade under the front of the cap and push down the cap at the same time and it will pop open. Takes a few minutes the first time, But you can pop them open at will after that.
I hate signatures. Too many cars and Bikes to list here.

it has been my expirence in the past that you can use just about any key to get into the gas tank, on my XS11 i have 3 keys, ont for the ignition one for the electrical/helmet lock and one for the gas tank but all three oprn the gas tank. Check that out as well.

How much do you want for the tank?

          John.

I tried the key off of my main XS1100 and it did not open the tank, used an old unrolled hose clamp and it popped right open. Sadly, it was half full of REALLY rancid fuel from the previous owner. It still seems structurally fine, but the entire inside has a coating of rust. It'd need a serious cleaning. It is for sale if anyone is up for the project. 30 dollars plus shipping costs. No dents, petcocks and float still intact.

What is the matter with your tank? What are you going to do with your old tank and what year is it? Might be interested in it if you don't want to much for it.
                Thanks Tom

It is not that I have a problem with the tank as much as it is that the 80 XS11 special that I own is in Phoenix and I live in Minnesota. I have to go and get the bike soon and I thought that if I had a Tank here I could get it derusted and then get a paint job on it. I currently have no plans for the tank that is on the bike as of this moment. Thought that it might sit next to the spare tank that I have for my 80 XS 850 special. I was origonally going to try to fit one of my 850 tanks on it but I learned that the tanks are not interchangeable.
