  • XS11 E I Think! Steering Damper

    Hi All,

I'm new to this site/forum, came across it by accident!! I live in the UK.

What I am after is a Steering Damper to fit my XS1100 E. As it has a bit of a wobble at the moment, and has had for some time now!

So if any of you have one, or know where I may get one could you please let me know.

    Cheers

I've never seen a steering damper for an XS, but I suppose there could be one out there somewhere.

What I have seen is is a wobble that is caused by the steering head being tightened too much. Put the bike on the centrestand and block it up so the front wheel is off the ground. The front end should fall over to either side with just the slightest touch. If you have to push it at all, the head is too tight. This will cause a sort of a wobble, where it feels the bike just doesn't want to track straight, especially at low speed. It will also cause premature wear and failure of the steering head bearings.

Does this sound like it may be your situation?

      Hi Ken

      Thanx for that.
That idea has been tried, although I dont have a centre stand, as my XS11 is a Trike, but she was jacked up a little to do this!! All seemed ok.
Various things have been checked and tried, and short of pulling the whole thing to bits and starting again, I thought I would try one of the simplest ideas first!
She was built from scratch by a friend of mine, and New parts where used throughout her construction!

What is actually happening when I ride her is the bars are 'jerking' from side to side, not a case of pulling in one direction! This happens whether in a straight line or turning!

Again Thanx for that Ken, and I hope this has explained my situation a little bit better

      Cheers
      Micky
