  • Looking for 79 Carb diaphragm

Pulled a carb apart yesterday and found a cracked diaphragm. OEM 14940-00 for a 79 xs1100. I would settle for a used one if anyone can help with a source...Thanks, Cos

    Hey Cosmo,

The complete diaphragm/vacuum slide assembly is still available from Yamaha, but rather pricey, over $100 for ONE!!

There are ways to repair it. I can't remember if we have a specific tech tip about it, but there are plenty of threads here, a simple search for "repair diaphragm" will reveal the different ways!

I'm going to copy this thread into the Parts Wanted FORUM so you might get a better reply/offer of parts!

The replacement diaphragms you'll find at partsnmore and MikesXS are for the later 80-81 carbs with larger diameter vacuum slides, so they are not a bolt on choice. There was a recent thread about fitting the ones being sold on Ebay from the UK, and how to fit them onto the slides, still not an easy mod!

The '78 and '79 carbs use a different diaphragm than the later model carbs.
Cosmo, I DO have some 78' carbs, and I can check for good diaphragms. Let me know via PM if you still need one, and I'll take a look. I will be boxing everything up soon, as I have to move. It will then be in a "storage" area, and will be harder for me to find things.
