    xj 1100 horns

Does any one have factory horns for XJ 1100----I cleaned mine up

and they still don't work. I like the way they look and would like

    to put same back on.

    Thanks

      Hey Dod,

Have you checked to make sure you're getting power to your horns? The horn button can also get corroded, it's just the ground that completes the circuit, but if it's not making good contact, then the power can't get thru the circuit and no BEEP!

Also, use some jumper cables or wires and test your horns on the battery.....if they work, then you know it's in your wiring!? Might save you some $$!

But there are several options for aftermarket, from several bike sites, as well as local auto stores. However, I've found the auto type draw much more power to make good volume and so had to wire in a relay, and run power directly from the battery/Aux terminal for the horns, but are nice and loud!

Thanks for the reply---I did try both of them (hi/low) directly

to a battery and couldn't get any sound out of them. They

don't have many miles on them but were corroded at the

point contact and the center piece. There is voltage to both

sides so I guess I'll be shopping for replacements.

        Thanks again for the information,

Thanks----those look fine and as you said at a reasonsable price.

Maybe later I 'll see some OEM horns and purchase them also.

This may be worth a try....

On the back of each horn is a small 'tuning' screw. There is a jam nut with a screw sticking out of it, no wire going to it. If you loosen the jam nut and back it off you can turn the screw in and out. The XJ uses a Hi-Lo horn sound, each one tuned to a different tone. Hook the leads to a battery or charger and turn the screw until the horns start to make noise, (if they do) then 'tune' them to your liking. PS, this also works for older automotive horns.

The stock XJ horns are someshat anemic, and going to an aftermarket horn may not be that bad in terms of safety. Previous threads have covered this pretty well, so a search on horns or horn replacment and you can get a number of ideas.

Thanks Jerry for the information--I will try and do what you

suggested. I also have read posts on the XJ horn and came

to the same conclusion as you. T.C. gave me a link to check

out for a after market horn.

Thanks for you time and opinion,
