I picked up a 4x10 trailer on Craig's List, painted it, added a deck, safety chains, fenders, tie-downs, Harbor Freight wheel chock, and lights. (Trailer came with a title and a spare tire.) Have a bit over $350.00 invested now but have a nice utility trailer. I'll be using it to trailer the Connie to the Lost in Da UP rally next week.

The rig can be used as a utility trailer when I am not transporting the bike, and has a 5,000 pound axle / suspension rating so I can haul heavy loads such as the 166 landscape blocks (16 pounds each) I recently bought at a local auction.

Nothing against special-built trailers like a dedicated bike hauler, but for the price and general utility you might want to pick up a common trailer and add a wheel chock to make it easier to move your bike around.

(Trailer before I added the wheel chock.) Clicking on the photo will open up a larger version in most browsers.

Next up I plan to add stake pockets and side rails to easier handle bulky items such as firewood. I figure another $70 - $80 for that project. I have a set of ramps that I have been using to load my ATV in the back of my F-150; those ramps should work equally well to load wheeled items on and off the trailer.

For me an all-purpose trailer is preferable to a dedicated unit; I just don't trailer my bikes all that often but do transport my ATV (and other "stuff") several times a summer.

My trailer is already gone. It was a car tow dolly with a platform on it for bikes. The guy who bought it got it to use as a tow dolly and to haul bikes.

I agree that a multi-purpose trailer is better than a dedicated one.
