Friday night, my Harley buddy and I put in new plugs and changed the middle and final drive lube. It's been running on the old stuff for quite some time but I couldn't get the dang hex screws out. Borrowed a friends manual impact driver and it worked great.
So we thought, what better way to test it all out than to take a nice ride. Yesterday we got moving around 8:30 am and rode from Brooklyn Park, MN through Red Wing, Lake City, Wabasha etc.. We crossed the river in Wabasha and made our way back on the Wisconsin side of the river. I didn't know it, but there was a huge bike ralley going on (Flood Run) in the area so we saw plenty of bikes of all kinds. We were able to find a nice twisty road to heat up the tires on - the best one I've been on. After about 15 miles of varying twisties, I coulnd't wipe the grin off my face. We ended up stopping at a few scenic overlooks and chit-chatting to kill some time. We ended up home at about 3:30 and 230 miles later.
I'm pleased to report no hick-ups in the bikes operation. I was stunned to calculate and average of 51 MPG!!! I was at about 37-40 before but the new plugs must have worked well. Plus, this was pretty constant cruising at @4000 rpm.
If you're ever around Minneapolis area, this is a classic route for bikers. The scenery is beautiful and the roads seam to be meant for bikers (not many stop lights).
Today I wish I had my endorsement so I could spend another beautiful day on the bike, with my wife behind me. I think I need to take the test soon so tonight, I'll get in some practice (hopefully).
