  • Curious about weeping oil filter bolt?

Gentlemen...and Ladies..Check your bolt...I was using an aftermarket one, EMGO IIRC, simply cause it was new and laying in the parts box. I had this annoying weeping of oil at the bolt, not enough to leave a stain on the floor, but enough to make me wipe off the oil pan at each oil change. Turns out the o-ring recess in the OEM bolt is a bit shallower than the aftermarket bolt, holds the o-ring a little prouder, giving a better seal at the cup.

You'll be able to tell without a mic, if it takes a bit of a push to seat the bolt into the cup, you're good to go. The o-ring should sit proud enough to give you an interference fit.

Needless to say, I'm back to using the original bolt.
Former owner, but I have NO PARTS LEFT!
