  • deposits on valves

I have been examining the valves of an 81H out in the garage. I noticed that there are some metal deposits along the shafts. The deposits do not scrape off and are located on the length that is inside the valve guide. Can anyone shed some light on what the deposits are/why they are there? Can I sand them smooth to restore the valves? I have looked at three valves so far and all three have the deposits? I did sand one of them and it does slide in the valve guide easier whereas is was sticking prior to sanding. I hope it isn't from the engine being ultra hot. This head is being rebuilt due to some bondo plus tank sealer that stuck the valves open. You ought to SEE the crap that built up on the valves.
