This may have come up before but thought I'd mention it just in case. The otherday I was polishing the side covers on the engine before installing it (the engine) back in the bike and I looked at the carb clamps and how grimy they looked, well since I was using a drummel on the engine I figured I'd try some silvo polish on the clamps......well after 1st getting a could wet buff happening on the clamps then I dryed them and kept buffin and in maybe 3 minutes time I had those clamps gleaming like chrome....one place I used a little steel wool to remove some varnish....but wow that little drummel sure does the trick and shiny clamps adds a little more sparkle to a terrific engine, oh, be sure to add wax or something to protect the metal when your done, I used Mother maguires protectant.......by the way, the aluminum side covers can almost be brought up to the appearnce of chrome if you go at it enough.
