Well what can I say it was a most enjoyable ride last Sunday.
The weather was perfect. A little cool on the morning 64 degrees.
A little hot in the afternoon 94 degrees all clear skies with slight wisps of clouds.
I met up at Northline Mall with Robert and Linda Moore at 8am Sunday 4/18/03.
We took off north on the I45 slab. Traffic was light and I held the speedo on 75mph. We arrived in Conroe Tx at 8:45 at the Jack in the Box for breakfast. Our mutual High School friend Eli and his son James 11 met us there. We had a good chat and went to the CreekWood shooting range. You it's funny how people do not mess with motorcyclist's with guns strapped on the back of thier bikes....;-P Seriously! But we had them in hard carrying cases but people do recognize that they are gun cases....
We shot 3 rounds of skeet and had a good time. Robert and Linda are newbies at this and didn't do to well but I could see improvement by the third round. But the fun was kidding around and making some noise and chunking lead.
So the 3 of us left Eli and James starting another round and took off west on 105 to 149 and went south to Tomball. 149 is very nice with rolling hills, lazy curves and good scenery.
When we got to 249 we headed south to 2920 then headed down Telge towards Roberts house. More fun was yet to come!
We left the guns at his house to make the last leg of the trip that we have taken many times and call it the BBQ run. There is a BBQ place called the Swinging Door. The people are friendly and the service and food is very good. When we walked in the waitress asked if we wanted smoking or non and that is when I spoke up and said the coldest spot in the place with a big smile of course.
To say I was hot would be some what of an understatement.
My hair was soaked.
She accomodated us/me very well. Sat us right by the AC unit.
The BBQ plate I ordered was to much for me to finish. Besides I had a peach cobbler staring at me with melting vanilla ice cream on it that the waitress had brought a little to early for me....;-P
I'm still not familiar enough to know the names/numbers of the roads we took so I'll just describe them the best I can.
The roads are all 2 lane and mostly smooth with ranch's and some home scattered along it. It is bottom land so there are a lot of trees and green grass. We got about 1/3 the way through it and there was an accident that looked like some one lost control and went off the road. The police and ambulance was already there so we didn't stop. All those lazy turns were getting me pumped and my wrist kept twisting the throttle with a mind of it's own... Oh Yeah!!!
I started getting bummed out because up ahead was a detour sign. They were rebuilding the bridge.
Much to my surprise the detour turned out to be so good it will be included in future BBQ runs. Well all I can say is it was AWSOME!!!
I know you all know what a 15mph turn does for the adrenalin when you take it at 45 plus....;-) Did I say there were lots of them? Oh Yeah!!! Just the thing for a guy like me....;-)
The detour dropped us off just the other side of the bridge.
That was good since it meant we were not going to miss any of the original ride. At the end it drops us off at Brookshire and the I10 slab and we take it back east to Katy and back to Roberts house. All in all a perfect day.
Good people, good food, good shooting, and GREAT BIKING!!!
I was so pumped when I got home I was not tired after a full day and could not go to sleep when the time came.
And that has carried over for the dreaded Monday and back to work. I'm still pumped! Did I say I was PUMPED?....;-P
Well that's all for now!
Take Care!
Hope y'all enjoyed the read.
Keep the Shiny side up and the rubber side down....
