a coworker and i left gainesville around 12:00 on friday of last....
we went through some back roads over to hwy 400. there we proceeded to moto400 to look at all the nice bikes they sell plus the very pristine 1980 xs11 standard on the platform above the sales floor. they also have a nice rz350. then we headed up 60 to suchess to visit two wheels! and we arived to discover the xs650 dogwood ralley was there that weekend! i saw a couple of nice xs's and a very nice xj650.
unfortuanitly we missed lunch hours so we shot across the gap and the richard russell over to helen.
my freind was riding a ninja 250 so i told him to lead the ride though the mountains. it was hard to keep up on the twisties but only because i don't know the roads he had been there several times.
i did however leave him several times on the twisties through the back side of 52 and some of the lovely lonely roads through murryville. he said i scared him riding that bike that fast. he didn't realize they would handle that well.
i told him about the stories i heard last year at the xs11 ralley were TC was keeping up with mrsixtysix and the other guys on newer sporty bikes.
i think TC has more balls that i do! Godzilla has those hard bags, and floor boards. i feel that after riding through there a few times i will be able to stay close on my frieds tail!
the 250 has no top speed though. we rode to sc 2 months ago to a bike show. we pulled out onto 985 and i hammered it and forgot he was on a 250. after a few seconds i looked in the mirror and didn't see him... he flipped me off when he finally caught up!! hahaha. we had to stay under 80 most of the way because he was getting beat up on the bike.
i told him no more interstate rides until he gets a full size bike he's about 6'3" and weighs around 230-250??? i told him he needs an 11. he has been searching for one since then. plus he's jealous about the maintinence schedule!
all in all it was a great ride. we ended up at a great bbq place in helen. he had to go home and i decided to go back to two to see if there were anymore 650's there. i ate a burger and didn't reealize until i left that mary was at the next table... i thought he looked familiar???? after i left i realized who it was... oh well.
i am glad it's getting warmer. i ride all year to work at night and now i won't have to wear the ski bibs for a while!
ride safe everyone!
xs11's forever!
