As I was looking around Harbor Freight the other day, I spotted this 12 Volt On-board Battery and Alternator Load Tester . It said it’s weather proof and was only $5.99, so I thought I would give it a try.
In the instructions it says that if it only the red lights up, the voltage is 11.3 to 11.7 volts. Both the red and yellow is 11.8 to 12.2 volts. All three red, yellow and green is 12.3 to 12.7 volts. I tested the batteries in my shop with it, and its readings were accurate.
Here you can see it mounted under the seat, on top of the battery. I put it here because it only takes me 5 seconds to remove the seat from my XJ. If I want to check the battery or the charging system output, it’s easy to pop the seat and push the button.
Battery test.
Charger / Alternator test.
Now I will see if it can live on a motorcycle.
