I am new to Yamaha, but not to riding, and my question pertains to the initial 3000 mile valve adjustment on xj series, specifically the xj900rk. I bought one that had 4700 miles on it, tracked down the original owner, and learned the owners-manual mandated 3000 mile valve check had never been performed. Does this series of engine have any known tendency for valve problems or do they, like many Hondas, hardly ever go out of spec?
