Cy, some of the East Coast people don't seem to understand just how BIG California is! At 250 miles wide, and 800 miles long, it would fit across a large part of the East Coast! The other thing is that little row of hills between California and Nevada. Most of us have ridden over Donner Summit, at 7,500 feet,or maybe Monitor Pass at 9,000+. Granted, it's not as tall as Colorado, but it is a big range!
If you look at the map, zoom in until CA fills the width of the screen. Then, start from San Diego and see how many times you need to move the map to get to Oregon. Now, without changing the zoom, try the same thing on the East Coast. That should help a little with the perspective we live in.

I think this is an awesome tool that we can all use to help find our fellow XSives.
