Selling a 1980 Yamaha XS1100 Midnight Special near Indianapolis.
Great low mileage (9400 miles) "rider grade" bike: mechanically sorted, cosmetics are like a 5 foot type of deal (as opposed to 10+ feet). My buddy bought this during Covid from a guy who had done an amateur restoration: repaint on the tank and side covers, the original gold chrome has all been redone with "gold" spray paint (done reasonably well, but the color is a bit more of a bronze gold). The black chrome on the exhaust is also so-so: headers have a decent amount of pitting and have been sprayed with high temp exhaust paint. Sadly missing the original gold chrome airbox (regular chrome Special airbox installed). Fork uppers have some pitting, outside of the range of fork travel though as best as I can tell.
I went through the carbs, installed new OE float valve assemblies, cleaned/tuned everything. The bike runs and rides amazing. No 2nd gear issues. Stainless braided lines on the front, rebuilt pison/seals out back, brakes feel and work excellent (better than my '79 you've all read my travails about). Rear hub splines serviced with moly paste. Tires are older, plenty of tread but for a daily rider I would replace them. Blade type fusebox installed.
Clean Indiana title. I have it listed on FB marketplace for $2300 to not get eaten alive by the low ballers on there but would sell it to someone on here for a truly great price. Feel free to make me an offer, I promise I won't be insulted.
