My XS1100 has always been cold blooded but is getting really tempermental in her old age. I've rebuilt the vacuum block, replaced all the octopus fuel lines, new plugs etc.... But even on a warm morning, it can be 5-10 minutes before she'll finally start up, sometimes on full choke, sometimes on half choke, never with no choke. Once warmed up, she runs like a champ and starts up no problem the rest of the day. I think the carbs are OK, only because the plugs look really good and it idles and accelerates without a hiccup. One thing I have noticed is that it starts much easier when the tank is full. After struggling the other day to get it started with about a quarter tank, I filled it up and waited a couple days. This morning, it started on half choke on the second try.

So, this may be an idiotic thought, but those fuel lines into the octupus have some tight bends. Is it possible that one or more are bent so much they are restricting fuel flow and that the full tank adds just enough pressure to force the fuel through them? Any other thoughts, suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

I have been chasing some a pesky fork vibration for a few years now. I get it on heavy braking and at higher speeds. Now I notice I am getting some pad kick back, what I mean is I have good lever feel, then suddenly it will go soft but the next pump is firm. Bled the brakes, same deal. Took the master cylinder apart cleaned it up and put it back. Lever feels fine at a standstill. Just goes soft after rolling or riding, every once in awhile. I can only think that is some piston kick back. Are bad rotors the only thing that does that? I don't want to buy expensive new rotors if I should be looking at something else?

ZRX1200 Carb Conversion

Welp, the time has come. Performance-wise: The bike runs phenomenally. However, I presume that the throttle shaft seals are shot (increasing the idle with the idle screw, I have a hanging idle. So, I have it all the way down where I have a crisp idle, and maintain the throttle to prevent it from dying.) I don't want to bugger up the butterfly screws, attempting to remove them. So, I decided to invest in the ZRX1200 carb swap.

I've read enough threads on the topic to make it a side project. I ordered a Chinese jet kit to try various size mains (aiming for 135/140), and pilots. I'll leave everything else alone. I bought a universal choke kit, and I'll try to mount it into the airbox (I understand the box needs to slide forward, so prepared for that). From there, I'll follow Tad's thread on the vacuum advance mod, and take it slow so I drill it out correctly.

I hope to have this completed over the next month. The Mikuni's will get put on the shelf.

Good afternoon, just discovered that the oil seal has gone on the front right hand side fork. I am planning to change them both, how do I identify which type of forks I have. The brake calipers are held in place by a single bolt the screws up from the bottom. The wheel shaft is clamped on the right-hand side and castle nut on the left.
Thanks for any advice

Good afternoon, what are the thoughts on using the sump to lift the bike? Someone in the past has welded a homemade swinging arm brace to the bike, which means that the centre stand doesn't fit. I am limited on space and want to Jack the bike up and turn 180 degrees so it is pointing in the opposite direction. I will spread the load by using a large as possible wooden block. Cheers

Hey, folks!

I have been riddled with problems trying to work on my bike. I have a 1982 Yamaha XS1100. I can’t lookup the bike at Autozone or O’Reilly’s. I can’t find a manual. I’m struggling to believe this thing even exists! Haha

I am currently looking for a wiring diagram. My lights are on the fritz, the gauge cluster isn’t functioning properly, and it’s a mess under the seat.

I’m looking for any help or direction as to finding a solution! Thanks!!
I'm finally replacing the 80s tires on my XS1100 with some new ones. The front tire that was on it had a tube in there. These wheels don't /look/ like tube type wheels but googling it I get mixed results. Are these meant to have a tube?

Last night or early this morning I had to delete about 20 of those referral messages. It looked like a machine generated ID. I did manage to get rid of all the messages and referred the ID to Dan Smith for removal. He responded back that he did delete the account and for now he has decided to manually moderate any new user account requests. If you know anyone that is trying to create an ID and it is delayed that is the reason. Dan has stepped up to help protect the forum. Cheers to Dan and if he sees this message he may want to add to it.
